MicroBead Hair Extensions

Micro Bead/Loc/Link Extensions are claimed to be one of the safest ways to go when it comes to long term extensions. There is no heat, no glue, no chemicals. its just hair and a metal clip(bead.) Brands available: HairLoc, Babe, Microlink.

a
"HairLoc" bonds
Hair is sectioned off into rows and the extension is applied to a piece of hair the same size as the extension. It is secured with a metal clip(bead) that is crunched holding the extension and your hair together. Many brands have a silicone coating on the inside of the clip(bead) to protect your hair.

After 3-4 months its recomended to come in for maintance and get the clips moved up. The clips are easily loosened and moved up then tightened. If maintaned correctly Micro bead/loc extensions can last up to a year!! Also since the hair is not damaged in application you can reuse it; great for people who are color changers.

I have a few friends who have done this method, they love it because the clips lay flat against the head and are metal so its smooth against the hair. People who use this method swear by it.

My feathers were applied with this method and it was SUPER easy and quick, no mess whatsoever. I wont lie the first day they were applied it was a little strange (this is from someone who has never had long term extensions) but now a week later, i'm totally used to it and want more!

I look forward to fully trying this hair extension application soon and see what I actually think.

Also I would like to thank www.hairangel.net for the photos she has a great before and after gallery.

Feather Hair Extensions!

I got feathered and I LOVE it. Feather Extensions are a fun easy way to add sass to your hair. They are attached with a silicone microbead and stay in your hair for about 8 weeks. You can wash, dry, curl and flat iron them

you can curl
You can even reuse the feather when the bead grows out or you need to remove them. We use Featherlocks Feather Hair Extensions and they cost $30 for three and $10 for each additional feather. Featherlocks come in 40 different colors more natural color and crazy bright colors

Hair Extensions- Clip In

Clip-In's are super easy to do they are the cheapest form of Hair Extensions. With clip-in's there are a few different options.

Clip-In Wefts
Jessica Simpson Hair Extensions

You can get them as single "wefts" (I like to think of them as panels of hair) or you can get them where the wefts are connected (I think of it as a half wig: fake hair on the bottom real hair on the top) Jessica Simpson Extensions are like this.

Kind of Hair: Synthetic or Human. Typically synthetic you cant heat style but I do have some that I can use low heat on (read the instructions if it says dont use heat DO NOT USE HEAT!) Human hair will last alot longer and you can style it as you would your own hair.

My favorite thing about Clip-In extensions is you can get really creative with fun colors for only a night or even try out bangs for the day!!

My biggest recommendation for clip ins is to make sure you have a good color match (or if its human hair have your colorist color them) and if you plan of wearing them often get them blended with your hair. I don't recommend them for daily use but they're great for a night out or event.

Below is a picture of my normal hair length and a picture with clip in extensions. I used 6-8 wefts of two different colors Note: I have a horrible color match and they're not blended (but it was Halloween its expected.)

Styling Class Details

I will now be hosting a styling class next Tuesday and the last Tuesday of every month.

During my time as a hairstylist I have realized that people get great haircuts and color and spend all this money on tools and products but never know how to maintain or style their hair. My goal is to get together a group, sit down with a glass of wine, and let you all talk about your hair needs. Once we figure out what your needs are you will work with your own tools to achieve the look or style you desire all with help from a hairstylist. The whole reason I've decided to do this is because when your in the salon there isn't always enough time to fully show and understand what your stylist is doing, then you go home with all these tools and products and you only remember half of what was said and its frustrating because nothing is working! Your hairstyle never looks how your stylist did it.

The class will be on Tuesday January 25th at Evolve: Hair and Art at 7:00pm. There is a tuition fee of $10 but you will also receive $10 off a product of your choice and a special surprise. I'm also very excited to announce that we will also be launching a new very fun service at the class.

To attend this class please RSVP: Info@JeskaNewman.com

Hair Extensions Intro

In the future I would like to offer the service of hair extensions. Ive heard good and bad about many different methods of application. I want to recommend extensions that have worn myself and would recommend, meaning I've got a lot of different methods and not to mention company's to try out. The most common methods are: Clip In, Weaves, Bonds, Micro Link and Keratin. Each method has its pros and cons for every different hair type. Keep in tune for blogs about each method as I'm learning as I go thru this process.

June 2010
As a few of you know I have pretty short hair, I've been growing it out for 6 months now, its been fun but im ready to have long hair again.

January 2011
I have already had experience with clip in extensions I've used them on myself, models for photoshoots and clients. Theyre very fun and easy, keep an eye out for my next blog to learn all about them.

The next kind I'm going to try is Keratin. Ive got a good friend Jeremy Abraham at Napolitano in Seattle that does them. He uses the Cinderella hair brand. Keep an eye out for blogs about this process. I should be getting them at the end of January.

Welcome 2011! New Year, New Blog!!

My New Year’s resolution is to be more proactive get a jump and do all the things I have said I’m going to do.  One of those things is my blog, every Monday or Tuesday please expect a blog post from me and if you don’t see one please hound me to post :)

One thing I’ve been noticing is that people are getting ballsy with their hair. I feel like I have a new client each week that says lets go dramatic! Brunette to blonde, long to short and I feel like once a week I have someone saying lets go Red! (Most of them are talking bright bright red) Rihanna’s bright red itch must be in the water or something. I’m surprised every time, but I LOVE it.

I recently cut a friends hair who swears her hair doesn’t grow at all. She’s deathly afraid of haircuts, I couldn’t believe that she had not gotten a haircut in THREE YEARS!! The saddest part was its true it grows very slowly in three years it maybe had grown 6 inches. The moral of the story is get your hair cut on a regular basis. She hated her hair, constantly complained about it. It’s been a week since her haircut and she’s been spending the extra 5 minutes on her hair and still loves it! The ponytail is no more.
My motto, once you start rocking the ponytail or in my case an insane amount of bobby pins it’s time for a haircut!
